Rather Insignificant

Rather Insignificant

It all seems rather insignificant
Somehow
Taking time today
Remembering,
What it feels like to see…

A tiny, red and white flag
Comically fluttering
Over an immense, gold-plated eagle
Wings majestically spread
Over an exaggerated history.

What it feels like to smell…
Car fumes mingling
With gaudy colognes of passing tourists.

What it feels like to taste…
A grilled steak through smoke
From a nearby cafe

What it feels like to hear…
A crow calling
To his brother
Bathing in a perfectly, symmetrical fountain

It all seems insignificant
Although there’s breathing
My heart rhythmically beating
Aware of the movement flowing through

One moment annoyed
The next languid amusement
Tightness in my throat
Trickles of tears
Easily getting lost in details

It all seems insignificant
Being what I am
And what it is.
It all seems rather natural
Doesn’t it?
